Robert L. Giroux, 83, of Plainville, passed away on Friday, April 4, 2014 at Hospital of Central Connecticut, New Britain. He was the husband of Virginia (Landry) Giroux.
Born in Fairfield, Maine on February 27, 1931, Bob was one of four children to the late Lewis and Louise (Paradis) Giroux. Raised in Maine, he attended local schools, enlisting in the U.S. Army at the age of 21, and proudly served his country for two years during the Korean War. He married Virginia in 1954, with whom he raised two loving daughters, and would have celebrated 60 years of marriage this year. They settled in Plainville after relocating to Connecticut when Bob began his position with Pratt & Whitney, where he worked for over 30 years, retiring in 1993. Always the passionate outdoorsman, Bob had a love for hunting, going camping and travelling with his family. He will be greatly missed, leaving many happy memories.
In addition to his wife, he leaves his daughters, Linda Carpenter of Vernon, and Jane Baylock and her husband, George of Bristol; his grandchildren, Cindy Pasiakos and her husband, George, Cheryl Fox and her husband, Craig, Brian Carpenter, and Stephanie and Russell Baylock; and his great-grandchildren, Anna and Alexander Pasiakos, Emmy Patnoe, and Riley Fox. He also leaves his sister, Lorraine Adams, and brother, Richard Giroux and his wife, Carmen, all of Maine; and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his sister, Lucille Bailey.
A memorial service in celebration of Bob’s life will be held on Wednesday, April 9, 2014 at 11 a.m. at Bailey Funeral Home, 48 Broad St, Plainville. Committal services with Military Honors will follow at St. Joseph Cemetery. Family and friends may gather on Tuesday evening, from 6-8 p.m. at the funeral home. Those who wish may remember Bob with donations to the charity of their choice.
