Stephen R. Wood

Stephen R. Wood, 65, of Wallingford, passed away peacefully after a lengthy illness on Saturday, December 14, 2019 at Midstate Medical Center in Meriden. He was the loving and devoted husband of 25 years to Cheryl (Canney) Wood. Stephen is now reunited with his father, Peter Wood, who predeceased him in March of 2018.

Stephen was born on July 2, 1954 in Warwick, Virginia son to Barbara (Robinson) Wood and the late Peter Wood, of Plainville. He was a highly skilled mechanic who was able to fix anything and there was never a task too difficult for Stephen to overcome. He dedicated a lot of his time to his career in order to provide for himself and his wife and simply because he had a true passion for being a mechanic. Stephen was a very hard worker and took great pride in what he did. He enjoyed teaching others the trade and passing on his knowledge.  He was a selfless, caring man always willing to help others. He especially cherished his wife, his mother and all of his fur babies. He will be deeply missed by his family and friends as they cherish the many fond memories they have with Stephen.

In addition to his wife and mother, Stephen leaves behind his siblings, Thomas Wood and his wife, Erika, of Southington, Edward Wood and his wife, Gerrie, of NH, Mary Wood, of Plainville, Timothy Wood and his wife, Leslie, of SC, Catherine Wood, of NH, Barbara Laliberte and her husband, Bob, of SC, and Daniel Wood and his wife, Tracy, of Southington; and many nieces, nephews, and extended family.

In celebration of Stephen’s life, family and friends are welcome to gather on Saturday, December 21, 2019 from 3 to 5 PM at the Bailey Funeral Home, 48 Broad Street, Plainville. Words of remembrance will be shared at 4:30 PM. In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of Stephen can be made to the American Liver Foundation Connecticut Division, 127 Washington Avenue, North Haven, CT 06473.
