Ronald V. Abbott

Ronald V. Abbott, 79, of Plainville, passed away in the comfort of his home surrounded by his loving family on Sunday, October 1, 2017. He was the loving husband to Barbara (Goldsmith) Abbott.

Ron was born in Chicago, Illinois on July 30, 1938, son to the late Vance and Mary (Carmody) Abbott. Ron was a jack-of-all-trades, spending 35 years as a machinist at New Departure. He was also a perfectionist, and it was evident with the impeccable yard he maintained at his home. His children often joked, his lawn was always as perfect as the hair on his head. Above all, family was most important to him. Ron was a generous man, always giving more than taking, and willing to lend a helping hand to anyone in need.  Ron showed his family unconditional love and support.

He was an avid sports fan, between rooting for the Cleveland Browns, Red Sox, and UConn women, while also engaging in the sports of golf, softball and skiing whether he was coaching or physically involved. Ron will be deeply missed by his entire family as they cherish the memories they have shared together.

In addition to his wife, Barbara, Ron is survived by his children, Ron Abbott and his wife, Dorothy, of South Dakota, Wendy Albert and her husband, Joseph, of Burlington, Alex Grandy and his wife, Annie, of New York, Nick Grandy and his fiance, Chrissy Daly, of Boston, Lauren Grandy, of Plainville, and Jeffrey Abbott and his wife, Cindy, of Bristol; his brother, Dale Abbott and his wife, Rosemary, of Florida; his three grandchildren; several nieces and nephews; and his fury granddog, Lily. He was predeceased by his brother, Terry Abbott.

Calling hours will be held on Thursday, October 5 from 5 to 8 PM at Bailey Funeral Home, 48 Broad St., Plainville. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday, October 6 at 10 AM at the Church of Saint Patrick, 110 Main Street, Farmington. Friends and family are asked to meet directly at church. Burial will follow in Saint Joseph Cemetery in Plainville.
