Robert F. "Bob" Leahy

Robert F. “Bob” Leahy, 77, of Plainville, passed away on Sunday, February 25, 2018. He was the loving husband for 34 years to Joanne B. (Burnham) Leahy.

Bob was born on August 20, 1940 in Hartford, son to the late William Leahy and Katherine Sullivan. He grew up in West Hartford graduating from Conrad High School. Bob was an avid runner in high school, breaking state records and earning a running scholarship to Fordham University. He subsequently graduated from CCSU earning an undergrad degree in biology and minoring in botany. He also went on to obtain a masters in education. He was a recipient of the prestigious Tozlawski Award. Bob was a passionate horticulturist and botanist. Every year, he took part in the Manchester Road Race. Bob joined the U.S. Air Force and was a decorated Vietnam War veteran, serving from 1964 to 1969 when he was honorably discharged. He owned and operated his own landscaping and construction company, Leahy and Sons Landscaping, beginning in 1984 up until his passing.

In addition to his wife, Bob is survived by his children, Erik Jones and his wife, Cindy, Zachary Jones and his wife, Bethany, and Shane Leahy and his friend, Kim; his grandchildren, Samantha, Lily, and Charlotte Jones, Sarah and Michelle Ayotte; his sister, Kathy Witty; his brother-in-law, William Burnham and his wife, Patricia; his best friend, Joel Edman; his furry companions, Maya and Dannyboy; his niece, Kimberly Tributti; his great niece and nephew, Michaela and Kyle; and several other nieces and nephews. In addition, Bob was a friend of Bill W. He was predeceased by his sisters, Betty Ann, Peggy, and Tricia.

A service in celebration of Bob’s life will be held on Thursday, March 1, 2018 at 6 PM at Bailey Funeral Home, 48 Broad St., Plainville. Military honors will be accorded following the service. Friends and family are welcome to gather at the funeral home on Thursday evening between 4 and 6 PM. Burial will be held privately.
