Nancy Middleton Hedman, 86, of Plainville, passed away on Thursday, June 21, 2018 at the Hospital of Central CT in New Britain. She is now reunited with her high school sweetheart and loving husband of 65 years, Kenneth A. Hedman, who predeceased her in 2017.
Nancy was born in New Britain on July 20, 1931, daughter to the late Lloyd and Ruth Elliott Middleton. She attended local schools, graduating from Plainville High School and went on to attend the University of New Haven, earning her bachelor’s degree and graduating with high honors. Throughout her working years, she worked part time for various companies, including the Plainville Cemetery Association, as a bookkeeper. The majority of her career was spent maintaining her home and raising her three children. Nancy was a member of the Plainville United Methodist Church. She enjoyed gardening and loved her rose bushes in addition to crafting, especially sewing and making pieces of clothing. Also, she was an avid golfer with her husband, Ken, and they were members of the Farmington Country Club, where they developed many lifelong friendships. Card playing was another pastime and they played bridge with friends and in leagues. Above all, family was of great importance to Nancy and she will be missed deeply by all.
Nancy is survived by her children, Keith Hedman, of Plainville, Karen Hedman-Ouellette, of Plainville, and Susan Hedman, of Gloucester, MA; her grandchildren, Elliott Simone and Melissa Ouellette; and several nieces, nephews, and extended family, including her sisters, Ruth Williams, of Waterford, and Barbara Presch, of Chelsea, VT; and her brother-in-law’s, David Williams, of Waterford and Robert Dixon, of White River Junction, VT. In addition to her husband, she was predeceased by her sister, Grace Dixon and her daughter-in-law, Lori Hedman.
A service in celebration of Nancy’s life will be held on Friday, June 29 at 10 AM at Bailey Funeral Home, 48 Broad St., Plainville. Burial with committal services will be held privately. Friends and family are welcome to gather at the funeral home on Friday morning (June 29) between 9 AM and 10 AM and on Thursday evening (June 28) between 4:30 PM and 7:30 PM.
