Marcella Olivia (Grandy) Hall, 85, of Bristol, formerly a longtime resident of Plainville, entered eternal rest suddenly on Sunday, February 24, 2019 at Bristol Hospital.
Marcella was born on November 10, 1933 in Plainville to the late Cleophus and Katherine (Williams) Grandy. She attended local schools, and went on to further her education earning her degree in medical records at Briarwood College. She worked at the VA CT Healthcare Medical Records Dept. for several years. Marcella led a life dedicated to the service of others. A devoted Christian, Marcella listened to her calling and went on to Seminary School and became an Ordained Elder. In collaboration with Rev. Michael Aubrey, Marcella helped establish the First Freedom Methodist Church in Plainville where she served as the Assistant Pastor. Marcella went on to become the Pastor of the First Freedom Methodist Church, and held worships every Sunday in her home. She was an active member of the Bristol, CT NAACP and was formerly the chairperson on the religious board. Marcella enjoyed cross stitching and knitting, but above all, helping others is what brought her the most joy.
Marcella is survived by her three daughters, Katherine “Kitty” Thompson (Lionel Thompson Sr.), of New Britain, Felicia M. Hall, of Bristol, and Lisa R. Hall (Sharon Perkins), of Wethersfield; her grandchildren, Everett C. O’Connor and Nicole Weston (Clinton Weston); her great granddaughter, Aaleya Hardy (Walter Taylor); her great-great grandchildren, Kendrick Marcel, who was Marcella’s pride and joy and whole world, and Nola Nicole, a blessing born the day before Marcella’s passing. She also leaves her brother, James A Grandy (Joann Grandy), a very dear friend Ann Labadia, several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by Kenneth Cambridge, a sister, Elizabeth Tribble, brothers: David, Everett, Edwin, Wallace, Stephen, and William Grandy and former husband, Richard L. Hall Jr.
A celebration of Marcella’s life will be held at 1PM on Wednesday, March 6, 2019 at Bailey Funeral Home, 48 Broad St., Plainville. Family and friends are invited to gather from 11AM to 1PM before the service. Burial in Plainville West Cemetery will be held at a later date. Memorial contributions can be made in Marcella’s name to The American Cancer Society, 825 Brook St, I-91 Tech Ctr, Rocky Hill, CT 06067.
