Lester I. Roy, 67, of Plainville passed away on Friday, April 27, 2018 at Saint Francis Hospital in Hartford.
Lester was born on May 24, 1950, son to the late Alyre Joseph and Juliette Marie (Carroll) Roy. He grew up in Maine, later relocating to CT and has been a resident of Plainville since 1973. Lester was an avid outdoorsman and fisherman and this led him to be devoted to the Boy Scouts of America and earn the honor of Eagle Scout. He worked as a state lifeguard for the CT parks. A proud American, Lester volunteered his service and enlisted in the United States Army, touring Vietnam from 1970-1972 and was honorably discharged. He held various jobs in many capacities including Stanley Works and Jensen Fabricating as a welder. Upon his retirement, he enjoyed a trip of a lifetime to Alaska with his best friend, Tom, where they caught Haibut.
Lester is survived by his children, Crystal Roy and Jeremiah Roy, both of Plainville; his brothers, Michael R. Roy, of FL, Alyre J. Roy Jr., of Bristol, and Andre Roy, of Harwinton; his sister, Suzette Surrells, of Maine; his nieces and nephews, Andrea McGuire, of CA, Christopher Roy, of CO, Charles Surrells Jr., of ME, Thomas Surrells, of FL, Joshua Roy, of CT, and Emily Roy, of CT. In addition, he leaves behind his three dogs.
A service in celebration of Lester’s life will be held on Friday, May 4, 2018 at 12 PM at Bailey Funeral Home, 48 Broad St., Plainville. Friends and family are welcome to gather at the funeral home between 10 AM and 12 PM when the service begins. Burial with full military honors will be held in the CT State Veterans Cemetery, 307 Bow Lane, Middletown.
