Joseph Plourde Tribute

Joseph R. Plourde, 91 of Plainville passed away Thursday March 14, 2019 at the Hospital of Central Connecticut in New Britain surrounded by his family and the caring staff on North 4. He was the loving husband of Rose (Theriault) Plourde.

Joseph was born December 10, 1927 in New Brunswick, Canada, son of the late Camille and Angelina (Cyr) Plourde and was a longtime Plainville resident. Joseph proudly served our country in the US Army during the Korean War in the 489th Amphibious Truck Division and was stationed at Fort Story, Virginia and Thule, Greenland. Having crossed the Arctic Circle twice during his Army service, he was proud to hold the distinction of being a member of the Order of the Polar Bear.   He had worked as a Head Custodian for the West Hartford School System, retiring after many years of service. Joseph was a lifetime member of both the Franco-American War Veterans and the Disabled American Veterans. He was a fan of Elvis Presley, Polka music and loved dancing with his wife. He and Rose enjoyed many outings and cruise vacations over the years, favorites of which were the three cruises they took to Alaska.  He was an active volunteer at the Plainville Community Food Pantry, and had been honored with the Celebrate Plainville Award for Outstanding Community Service and Volunteerism by the Community Foundation of New Britain. Joseph was a longtime Communicant of Our Lady of Mercy Church.

Joseph was a man of many interests and talents. A tinkerer and putterer extraordinaire.   He valued his many friendships, some of which spanned continents and decades, but what he cherished most was his family. Oh, the adventures we’ve had.

Besides his wife Rose he leaves his daughter Diane of Maine, and son Roger and his wife Christine of Plainville.  His daughter-in-law Pierrette predeceased him.  He also leaves his sister Sylvia, sisters-in-law, as well as many nieces, nephews, cousins, and many dear friends.

Joseph was also predeceased by his siblings Eymard, Emery, Arthur, Romeo, Georgette, Leon, Marcella, and Guy.
