Johnny Olai Delin, 96, went home to be with his Savior on January 20, 2019.
He was born June 15, 1922 in Borge, Norway and immigrated to the U.S. with his wife, Kitty, in 1949. He worked various jobs and upon moving to Farmington, Johnny began work at Miss Porter’s School as a professional baker. During the summer, he and his wife, Kitty, worked at Camp Idlewild, a boy’s camp on Lake Winnipesaukee in New Hampshire. He also worked alongside his wife as Manager of Land of the Vikings in Sherman, PA. On returning to Connecticut, he worked at various bakeries, including, most recently at Rogers Bakery in Plainville, CT, before finally retiring for good in 2001. He was an active member of the Sons of Norway Hartford Lodge and held various positions, including President for a number of years. He was also an honorary member of The Tuesday Ladies at Plainville United Methodist Church.
He was predeceased by his beloved wife, Kitty, of over 64 years. He was also predeceased by his brother, Finn Helge Dehlin and sister, Randi Moe, both of Norway. Johnny leaves his loving children, his son, Spencer and his wife, Patty, from Edwardsville, IL and daughter, Gertrude, from Plainville. He also leaves his nieces, Claire Johnson and Laura Memoli, both from Newtown, and Karen Kvam, from Ocean Isle Beach, NC, as well as three grandchildren, five great-grandchildren, extended nieces and nephews, from both the U.S. as well as Norway, and numerous friends.
A Memorial Service will be held at the Plainville United Methodist Church in Plainville at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations can be sent to The Memorial Garden Fund, Plainville United Methodist Church, 56 Redstone Hill Rd., Plainville, CT 06062.
