Fernande "Fern" (Boissonneau) Roy

Fernande “Fern” (Boissonneau) Roy, 101 of Plainville, beloved wife of Regis Roy, died peacefully on Saturday May 5, 2018 at Apple Rehab of Farmington Valley, where she resided for only the last six months of her long and independent life.

Fern was born October 10, 1916 in Inverness, Quebec, Canada, a daughter of the late Lorenzo and Mary Anne (St. Pierre) Boissonneau. The family emigrated from Canada to New Britain in 1923 and in 1940 she married Regis Roy and later moved to Plainville, where she resided for 70 years, raising a son and daughter. She was a member of the St. Ann’s Society of St. Mary’s Church in New Britain and a member of the Guild of Our Lady of Mercy of Plainville. Fern enjoyed gardening, playing cards, sewing and crafts, travel, and friends. She very much enjoyed her volunteer work at the Plainville Food Pantry.

She is survived by her son Roger and his wife Antoinette (Iacovazzi) Roy of New Hartford, her son-in-law William Jones and her loving grandsons Kevin and Jonathan of Waterbury and many nephews and nieces. She was sadly predeceased by her husband Regis in 1994 and her daughter Patricia in 1985 as well as her four brothers George, Lucien, Herve, Roland and her sister Claire Paradis.

A Mass of Christian Burial in celebration of Fern’s life will be held on Friday May 11, 2018 at 11:00 a.m. at Our Lady of Mercy Church 94 Broad Street in Plainville. Family and friends may gather at the church on Friday morning from 10:00 a.m. until the time of the Mass at 11:00 a.m. Burial will be held privately. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions in fern’s memory may be made to the Plainville Community Food Pantry 54 South Canal Street Plainville, CT 06062.
