David A. Holmes, 58, of Bristol passed away unexpectedly Sunday, December 10, 2017 at Bristol Hospital surrounded by his loving family.

Dave was born February 28, 1959 in Houlton, Maine, and was predeceased by his father Russell, mother Joanne (Monahan) (Holmes) Pavano and step father Tony “Papa” Pavano. He was a longtime Bristol resident. He attended the University of Connecticut and worked for American Medical Response as a Paramedic for over 20 years and was a first responder in 9/11. He proudly and honorably served our country in the United States Navy and was stationed in Spain for 4 years. Dave was a member of the James McNamee Chapter #5 Disabled American Veterans. He was an avid fisherman and loved his boat. He also enjoyed riding his motorcycle and spending time with his family, especially his granddaughter Riley, who was the light of his life.

He leaves his daughter, Krystal Swift and her husband Eric of Southington, his brothers, Dana Holmes and his wife Doreen of Gardiner, Maine and Jerry Holmes and his wife Linda of El Cajon, CA, his sister, Susan Ronzello and her husband Robert of Farmington, his former wife, Jenice (Grooms) Holmes, his grand-daughter Riley and step granddaughter Makenzie as well as many nieces and nephews.

Family and friends may gather at the Bailey Funeral Home 48 Broad Street in Plainville on Saturday from 3:00 p.m. until 6:00 p.m. with a service in celebration of Dave’s life beginning at 6:00 p.m. Burial with military honors will be held privately. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Companion Pet Rescue, Inc. (CPR Dogs) 522 North Georges Hill Road Southbury, CT 06488.
