Charles Alvarez

Charles Alvarez, 89, of Bristol passed away in the comfort of his home on Thursday, December 21, 2017. He is now reunited with his loving wife of 53 years, Mary (Martin) Alvarez, who predeceased him in 2011.

Charles was born on February 19, 1928 in Westfield, MA, son to the late Remigio and Basilisa (Garcia) Alvarez. He proudly served our country in the United States Army and was honorably discharged. He was presented the Korean War Medal and the United Nations Service Medal. Charles was an avid UCONN women’s basketball fan. Above all, he was a loving father and grandfather and family was the most important aspect of his life.

Charles is survived by his children, Kathy Brousseau and her husband, Ray, Patricia Nigro, Kenneth Alvarez and his wife, Shelly, and Michael Alvarez; his grandchildren, Melissa, Amanda, Kristina, Kathryn, Dustin, Jordyn, Jillian, Kayla, and Matthew; his great-grandchildren, Olivia, Dominic, Savannah, and Nora; several nieces and nephews; and great nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his siblings.

A celebration of Charles’ life will be held on Friday, December 29 at 11 a.m. at Bailey Funeral Home 48 Broad St., Plainville.  Family and friends may gather from 9-11 prior to the service.  Committal services will follow in St. Joseph Cemetery, Plainville. Military honors will be accorded following the committal service.  In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in Charles’ name may be made to the St. Paul Catholic High School Athletics Department, 1001 Stafford Ave., Bristol, CT 06010.
