Katherine Ann Swenson, daughter of Frank E. Boyne and Katherine A. Spies, passed away on Friday, Jan. 13, 2023. She is predeceased by her husband, George Francis Swenson, who died on Oct. 6, 2022.
Katherine was born on July 28, 1943, in the town of Boundbrook, NJ, then moved to Fanwood, NJ, and graduated from Culmen High School in 1961. She initially started college at Montclair State College, however, she fell in love and married George F. Swenson on July 27, 1963.
After having four children, Katherine went back to Southern Connecticut State College in 1982, graduating in 1985 with a Master’s in Library Science. She then worked at SCSU until her retirement. She was always proud of going back to school. Having four rambunctious boys never stopped her from volunteering in the PTA and working with the church. She was always on the run, but still had time to make clothes and wonderful needlework tablecloths, pictures, and rugs. Her trick was to get her sons involved in as many sports as possible and make us go outside and spend time with friends. She needed that time to finish her crosswords. She was the best Trivial Pursuit player ever, but couldn’t remember where she left her keys, pocketbook or glasses. Once, her glasses were discovered in the fridge.
Katherine had an outgoing personality, a wry sense of humor, and was deeply caring. She had several friends and acquaintances. These friendships lasted most of her life. She thrived on critiquing George’s gourmet cooking; however, her own orange juice pork chops will go down in history as the one of the funniest meals ever, turning the laughing boys green.
Katherine is survived by her sons Kurt, Karl, David, and Neil; her daughters-in-law; and seven grandchildren. She made a difference in people's lives and will be dearly missed.
The family will receive friends and visitors for a Visitation on Wednesday, January 18th from 4-8pm at B.C. Bailey Funeral Home located at 273 S.
