James Leigh Barnes

WALLINGFORD - James Leigh Barnes of Wallingford passed away on February 2, 2023. He was the loving husband of Doll Falasco Barnes.

Leigh was born in Meriden to James Hough and Lucille Thomas Barnes on April 10, 1947. He graduated Lyman Hall High School in 1965 and attended UCONN school of Agriculture. He worked in the Barnes Orchard until it closed in 1976. He then worked as the Superintendent of In Memoriam Cemetery until his retirement in 2010.

Leigh was a past member and Director of the Connecticut Cemetery Assn. He was also a past member and Certified Cemeterian of the New England Cemetery Assn. He was a volunteer of the North Farms Volunteer Fire Department, Company 7. Leigh was a life member and Director in both the Wallingford Historical Society and The Center Street Cemetery Assn. and a life member of Wallingford Elks Lodge 1365. He served in the National Guard from 1967-1973 obtaining the rank of Sergeant.

Leigh is survived by his wife and soul mate, Doll; his beloved son and daughter-in-law Michael and Karen Barnes; his stepchildren and their spouses: David and Tracey Falasco, Jennifer and Hamish Lutris, Ted and Jill Falasco. He was a wonderful Pa Leigh to his grandchildren Alley, Corey, Megan, Justin and Kaitlyn and his great granddaughter, Madison.

He is also survived by his aunts, Elizabeth Barnes and Joan Monahan and his loving cousins.

Family and friends are invited to attend calling hours from 10:00 AM to noon at St. Paul's Episcopal Church, 65 N Main St, Wallingford on Saturday, February 11th. A funeral service will be held at the church immediately following calling hours. Interment at In Memoriam Cemetery in Wallingford at a later date.
