Camille Bonocchi Tribute

WALLINGFORD- Camille (Hirbour) Bonocchi, 102, departed this life on May 28, 2022 at Masonicare in Wallingford. She was the beloved wife of the late Roland Bonocchi.  Born January 7, 1920 in Waterbury to Thomas and Emma (Hebert) Hirbour, Camille was raised at the former Gaylord Sanitarium farm in Wallingford. After high school in Quebec, the artistic, adventurous, and appreciative Camille returned to Wallingford establishing a hair salon on Center Street. As a young hairdresser her hair styles won national competitions. After marrying Roland in 1952 she moved to North Haven. Subsequently the hairdressing business moved to North Haven as well. Some years later the married-couple's antiques hobby became a business. And after a residential move in the mid-1980s to Nokomis Florida, the business traveled the entire East Coast. She maintained the business after Roland's passing into her early 90's.

Camille was a great seamstress and kept  her siblings' children in style. She was an exceptional cook. While she enjoyed making food taste great, whether preparing scrambled eggs in the French style with lots of butter or pork tenderloin with rosemary and citrus, Camille always credited Vera Valenti for teaching her to cook Italian. Camille enjoyed all types of domestic and international travel, summertime house rentals on the Connecticut shoreline, but  found most comfort at the salt water on her boat with friends.  Camille returned to Wallingford in 2015 as a Masonicare resident, ultimately sharing a room with her sister Claire. We pray that Camille's favorite Saint Anthony is watching over her now in remembrance of the life that touched our hearts.

Camille is survived by nieces Mary (Tommy) Meeks of Ivoryton, Maureen Murphy of Hebron, and Grace (Jim-deceased) Kolbe of Wellington FL; nephews Christopher (Elaine) Souchuns of Ashland MA, John (Laurie) Souchuns of Cedar Key FL, Peter (Pamela) Souchuns of Wallingford, Thomas (Joann) Souchuns of Plantsville, Charles Murphy of Stratford, Joseph (Roberta) Bonocchi of Wallingford, Robert Bonocchi of Wallingford, and William Bonocchi of Wallingford. She is pre-deceased by her sisters Laurette and Claire, and her brother Gerard.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Tuesday, June 14, 2022 beginning at 12:00 PM at St. Elizabeth of the Trinity Parish-St. Barnabas Campus, 44 Washington Ave, North Haven.  Interment for Camille and her late husband will take place immediately following mass at All Saints Cemetery.
