Richard J. Benenti

July 25, 1936 ~ April 4, 2017 (age 80) 80 Years Old

Richard J. Benenti, 80, of Berlin passed away peacefully on April 4, 2017, with his wife, Marcia Jackie at his side.

Richie was born July 25, 1936, son to the late Giuseppe Benenti and Rose Benenti Rozzi, and stepfather, Albert Rozzi, in New Britain, where he made many lifelong friends. After graduating from New Britain High School, Richie proudly served the United States Army in Germany, where he was a member of a tank support squadron. Following his service, he returned to the New Britain area and had a long career in tool and die making and sales, at Prentice Corp, culminating in a 20 year career with B&L Tool and Machine in Plainville.

Richie’s passion was the ocean. He bought a sea-worthy boat as soon as he could, and fished on Long Island Sound with his family and friends as often as possible, especially his son Mark. His hand-drawn navigation charts spoke to his love of boating. His favorite vacation trips never strayed far from the nearest sea.

In addition to his wife, Richie leaves behind: his son, Mark Benenti and his fiancé, Kandy DeRosa; his son, Ken Jackie; his daughter, Karen Jackie-Hinchcliffe and her husband, Raymond; and his grandchildren, Dylan, Katelyn, Sarah, and Emma. His passing will also be mourned by a large honorary family of friends, their children, and their grandchildren. He was predeceased by his sister, Marie Benenti and his sons, Paul Benenti and Jeffrey Jackie.

A Funeral Mass in Celebration of Richie’s life will be held on Saturday, April 8 at 12:00 PM at St. Francis of Assisi Church, 1755 Stanley St, New Britain. Friends and family are asked to meet directly at church. Burial will be held at a later date at the convenience of the family.
