Mary S. Whipple

Mary Stella Whipple, 89, of the Marion section of Southington, passed away in the comfort of her home on Thursday, January 11, 2018. She is now reunited with her loving husband, Frederick W. Whipple, who predeceased her in 1990.

Mary was born on May 3, 1928, in Holderness, New Hampshire, daughter to the late William Joseph Vontel and Stella Thompson. She was a longtime resident of Southington. Mary enjoyed feeding the critters of the outdoors, including birds and squirrels that visited around the outside of her home. She led a simple life as a homemaker and in her former years was a foster parent. Every day, Mary enjoyed watching the Westerns, especially Bonanza, regardless if it was a repeat of an episode she had seen previously.

Mary is survived by her children, Peggy Kinney, Linda Hagstrom and her husband, Donald, Judy Buell and her husband, Kurt, Susan Rebstad, Alicia Robinson and her husband, Robert, Michael Whipple and his wife, Sharon, and Joseph Whipple and his wife, Michelle; her grandson, William Joseph Whipple; and numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, great-great grandchildren, and nieces and nephews. In addition to her husband, Mary was predeceased by her son, Richard Whipple, and her two sisters, Madeline and Louise.

A graveside service in celebration of Mary’s life in West Cemetery, Plainville will be held privately at the convenience of her family. There are no calling hours. Bailey Funeral Home, 48 Broad St., Plainville has care of arrangements.
