Marcel F. Gervais

June 16, 1928 ~ March 4, 2017 (age 88) 88 Years Old


Marcel Francis Gervais, 88, of Plainville, passed away comfortably in his home in Plainville on Saturday, March 4, 2017.He is now reunited with his beloved wife of 66 years, Eleonore (Schulmeyer) Gervais, who predeceased him in 2015.
 

Marcel was born on June 16, 1928 in Canada son to the late Emile and Rose Aimee (Mercier) Gervais. He proudly served our country in the United States Air Force during World War II., serving as Corporal as an air traffic controller overseas. He was a distinguished veteran, having received Army of Occupation Medal and WWII Victory Medal. Marcel met and married his wife, Eleanore, during the time he was deployed in Germany and they shared 66 loving years together.

Marcel started the family business, Gervais Bros Inc., with his two brothers in 1960 and worked as a mechanic/ truck driver while also managing the office. He was naturally a hard worker. He loved boating; he was the Captain of the Lore Jac and a lifetime member of the Pattaconk Yacht Club, where he relaxed and spent time with his family. In addition, he loved to drive in his yellow T Bird. He was a teacher to many, enjoyed food and family traditions, such as preparing stuffing for Thanksgiving dinner with his daughter and celebrating anniversaries German style at East Side Restaurant. He adored and enjoyed spending time with his great-granddaughter Madisyn, which brought him the most happiness towards the end of his life.
 

Marcel leaves behind his daughter, Jacqueline Screen, of Bristol; his granddaughters, Jessica Screen and Joy Screen, both of Bristol; his great-granddaughter, Madisyn Brzezinski, of Bristol; his sister, Roseann Whitbeck, of New York; and his brother, Jacques Gervais, of Bristol. He also leaves behind many friends, nieces and nephews, including Mark Gervais and his family, of Plainville.  In addition to his wife, Eleonore, he was predeceased by his son-in-law, Phillip Screen, his brother, Raymond Gervais, and sister, Madeline McGray.
 

The family would like to extend their gratitude to Interim Home Care and Vitas Hospice for the kind care that they provided to keep him home.


A Memorial Service in Celebration of Marcel’s life will be held on Friday, March 10 at 12 PM at the Bailey Funeral Home, 48 Broad St, Plainville.  Family and friends may gather on Friday morning from 10 AM until the time of the service at 12 PM. Military honors will be rendered following the service. Burial will be held privately at the convenience of the family. In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of Marcel can be made to the Disabled American Veterans, PO Box 14301, Cincinnati, OH 45250-0301(www.dav.org).
