Julio Loureiro

September 19, 1935 ~ April 7, 2017 (age 81) 81 Years Old

Julio Loureiro, 81, of Burlington, Connecticut and North Hutchinson Island, Florida, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by his family, in the loving arms of his wife, on April 7, 2017. He handled his illness just as he did his entire life, with class and dignity.

Julio was born on September 19, 1935 in Marlborough, MA to the late Julio and Adelmina (Giorgi) Loureiro. He married Beverly Jacobs, his high school sweetheart and the love of his life, in December 1953. He attended Lafayette College in Easton, Pennsylvania, graduating in 1957 with a BS in Civil Engineering. After moving his family to Plainville, he served as a Captain in the Army reserves while pursuing his career in engineering and attending the University of Connecticut. He graduated from UCONN with an MS in Engineering in 1963. In February 1975, after working for James S. Minges and Associates for many years, he founded Loureiro Engineering Associates, Inc. Although a jack-of-all-trades, Julio was best known for his work designing wastewater collection and treatment systems for municipalities and industry throughout New England. Julio served his profession in leadership roles with several professional organizations in Connecticut. Julio retired from Loureiro Engineering in 2002 after selling the company to the employees via an ESOP in 1998.

Julio had a love of adventure and lived his life to the fullest. He was a pilot with just under 3000 hours in the air, and owned many planes over the years. His Cessna Cardinal was his most memorable. He enjoyed flying friends and family to numerous destinations, the islands being his favorite. He was an avid scuba diver with over 1000 dives under his belt. He also had a great love for photography, especially underwater, which allowed him to preserve many wonderful memories. The ocean was his happy place and brought him peace and tranquility. Julio was a brilliant man with a gentle soul. He could not raise his voice if he tried. His greatest strengths were his integrity, determination, and love for his family. Every decision he made in life revolved around them. He took great joy in playing with his many grandchildren (and one great grandchild) and was always building one toy or another. Forever young at heart, he preferred the title of “Grandad” over “Grandpa.”

In addition to his soul mate and wife, Beverly, Julio is survived by his four children, twelve grandchildren and one great grandchild: Lyn, and her sons, JT and Jeff (Burke), of Lancaster, CA; Jeff, his wife Sheryl (Fuce) and their children, Kelsey, Kevin, Keith and Kiley, of Canton, CT; Julie, her husband, Peter (Pappas) and her children, Steven, Kara, and Jenna, of Otis, MA; and Cindy, her husband, Steve (Grossman) and her children, Samantha, Nicolle (and her son, Markus), and Nina, of New Hartford, CT.

He also leaves behind his two brothers, Anthony, and his wife, Joan, of Hudson, MA; and Jerrold and his wife, Suzanne, of Chandler, AZ, and was predeceased by his sister, Lucy (Ryan), as well as many great friends and colleagues whom enriched his life throughout the years.

Julio will be greatly missed by all, however, the impact he has made on our souls will be forever imprinted in our hearts.

A Celebration of Julio’s life will be held on Saturday, April 22, 2017 from 1 to 4 PM at Farmington Club, 162 Town Farm Rd., Farmington, CT 06032. All are welcome to attend. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Julio’s memory to Focus Center for Autism, PO Box 452, 126 Dowd Ave., Canton, CT 06019.
