Theresa Rita Dalena, 78, of Kensington passed away with her family by her side, on Tuesday, July 1, 2014.
Born on January 8, 1936, she was one of six children to the late Joseph and Maria (Gargiulo) Dalena. A graduate of Southington High School, Theresa went on to work at New Britain Bank and Trust Company, and then in the accounting and finance department for Northeast Utilities, from which she retired in 1993. During her career Theresa also furthered her education, receiving her Bachelor’s Degree from Post College in 1983.
Her large extended family was what she cherished most. She shared many memories with them, especially at the holidays and during summers at their second home in Piermont, New Hampshire. A talented skier, she was a longtime member of the Mountain Laurel Skiers, spending much of her time at Okemo and Round Top in Vermont, and as a seasoned traveler she circled the globe. Theresa had a talent for cooking and baking, and enjoyed creating floral arrangements. She was a volunteer and promoter of breast cancer awareness through the annual Connecticut RACE in the PARK.
She is survived by her brother, Vincent Dalena; her sister, Marie Galat; and sixteen beloved nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her brothers, Joseph and Donald, and her sister, Nora “Noreen” Arpin.
Funeral services in celebration of Theresa’s life will be held on Tuesday at 9 a.m. at Bailey Funeral Home, 48 Broad St, Plainville, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. at Our Lady of Mercy Church. Committal services will follow at St. Joseph Cemetery. Those who wish may remember Theresa with contributions to the CT Breast Health Initiative, 185 Main Street, New Britain, CT 06051. Family and friends may gather on Monday evening, from 6-8 p.m. at the funeral home.
