PLAINVILLE; Miss June L. Mitchell, 72, of Plainville passed away Monday June 23, 2014 at her home.
June was born February 12, 1942 in New Britain, the daughter of the late Howard and Helen (Alger) Mitchell and was a longtime Plainville resident. She was a graduate of Plainville High School and earned both her Bachelor of Arts and Master’s Degrees in Library Sciences from Central Connecticut State University. June was a teacher in the West Hartford School system retiring after many years of service. She always loved children’s literature and made the acquaintance of several authors and illustrators. June was also a leader in the Multiple Sclerosis Society both on the local level in Plainville and also with the state and was instrumental in forming an exercise program at the Plainville YMCA for people with MS. June was also a longtime volunteer with the New Britain Museum of American Art and was a member of the Plainville Senior center as well as the West Hartford Education Association.
June leaves her cousins Dr. Peter W. Bauer and his wife Nancy of Cheshire, Kristin Russo, Eric Bauer and Peter Bauer, III as well as their spouses and children .She also leaves the family of the late E. Ernest Oberst and the late George Oberst, also her cousins.
Friends may gather at the Bailey Funeral Home 48 Broad Street in Plainville on Sunday from 3:00 p.m. until 5:00 p.m. Funeral services and burial will be held privately. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to the Multiple Sclerosis Society, Connecticut Chapter 659 Tower Avenue Hartford, CT 06112.
