Joseph F. Scalora

Joseph F. Scalora, 88, of Southington, passed away at his home, surrounded by his family, on Tuesday, April 15, 2014.  He was the beloved husband of Barbara L. (Schiffert) Scalora, with whom he would have shared 64 years of marriage this July.
Born in New Britain, on June 15, 1925, he was the son of the late Paul and Lucy (Bongiorno)Scalora.  A truck driver for most of his career, he delivered supplies for Plainville Special Tools, from where he retired in 1990, and during his retirement years, drove for the Plainville Senior Center Dial-A-Ride where he met many new friends.  He and Barbara settled in Southington, where they raised their daughter and resided for 58 years.  They attended St. Thomas Church, and both had a love for travelling, with Hawaii being one of their favorite destinations.
In addition to his wife, he leaves behind his daughter and son-in-law, Barbara and Joseph Prisco, with whom he made his home, his grandchildren, Liza Prisco Morales and her husband, Hector of Milldale, Paul Prisco of Southington and Anthony Prisco and his wife, JoAnn of Bristol; his great-grandchildren, Joseph and Matthew Morales, and Paul Prisco, Jr.  He also leaves his sister, Nellie Langer of Terryville and numerous nieces and nephews.  He was predeceased by his four brothers and two sisters.
Funeral services in celebration of Joseph’s life will be held on Tuesday at 9 a.m. from Bailey Funeral Home, 48 Broad St, Plainville, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. at Our Lady of Mercy Church.  Committal services will follow at St. Mary Cemetery, New Britain.  Family and friends may gather on Monday evening, from 6-8 p.m. at the funeral home.  In lieu of flowers, Joseph may be remembered with contributions to the VNA Healthcare, Inc., 300 Queen St, Southington, CT 06489, in appreciation for the compassionate care shown to Joseph and his family.
